4th European Fair on Education for Sustainable Development

4th European Fair on Education for Sustainable Development9 – 11 September 2015, Hamburg

In 2014 the UN-decade of “Education for Sustainable Development” which generated manifold activities and projects in the field of sustainable development came to an end. After its completion there still exists a growing demand for international cooperation and initiatives. As a subsequent agenda to the UN-decade the UNESCO proclaimed the Global Action Program on “Education for Sustainable Development” for the years 2015 to 2019. A roadmap was published as a schedule that clarifies the aims, facilitates the strategic focus and stimulates engagement in the program.

For this reason the RCE Hamburg and Region together with the Research and Transfer Centre Applications of Life Sciences (FTZ-ALS) of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) organizes the sustainability fair European Fair on Education for Sustainable Development - „Implementing Sustainable Development in European Cities and Regions“.

Thematically, the event focuses on a wide range of areas which include (but are not limited to) Education for Sustainable Development initiatives surrounding themes such as renewable energy and resource efficiency, environmental management and climate change.

The aims of the 4th European Fair on Education for Sustainable Development are as follows:

  • to provide organisations and actors with an opportunity to display and present their works (i.e. research, activities, practical projects, products) as they relate to Education for Sustainable Development
  • to foster the exchange of information, ideas and experiences
  • to discuss methodological approaches and projects which aim to better integrate the work of the various actors in the field of sustainable development
  • to support the cross-linking and the exchange of people and organizations being active in ESD (Education for Sustainable Development)

The event is organised around two main strands:

Strand 1: The presentations
A set of presentations, divided into two main sections will be organised, dealing with issues of strategic value in reviewing the state-of-art of Education for Sustainable Development in Europe today. These are:

  • Session 1: Practical Activities and Projects on Education for Sustainable Development at the local and regional level
  • Session 2: Research on Education for Sustainable Development at the local and regional level

Strand 2: The displays
An exhibition focusing on ESD will be set up in the foyer of the university. Organisations and actors active in the field of environmental education and education for sustainable development put-up displays describing their works and projects. The exhibition is the backbone of the Fair and allows close one-to-one contacts between the participants and the exhibitors.
