Despite L³EAP project end, results live on

HAW L3EAP Final ReportThe aim of Project L3EAP (10/2014-03/2017) has been to support countries, especially Small Island Developing States (SIDS), where energy access, energy security and and energy efficiency play a central role in achieving socio-economic development goals and reducing energy poverty. With its focus on lifelong learning (LLL), L3EAP offered tailor-made capacity-building on a short-term basis to strengthen local resources and improve skills to better meet the demands of the local energy-related labour markets in island countries. Besides the highly successful specific training courses held in Fiji, Mauritius, Germany and on some other islands, the development of the online learning module provided the other (major) part of the project. This activity required a high input of resources to design, produce and implement this unique learning intervention.

5th Newsletter out

This is the final newsletter of the EDULINK project L3EAP.

We review the key results and outcomes of the 3-year action, reflect the impact our activities had in terms of capacity-building in Small Island Developing States, particularly Mauritius and Fiji. We also provide you with some valuable insights into the future of online learning in development cooperation, recapturing key lessons from the successful implementation our state- of-the-art online pilot module. Finally, the project teams have been actively publishing and disseminating the project results all over the world and produced a set of scientifi c publications to ensure a lasting legacy of the project. Online course of HAW Hamburg starts with more than 730 participants from all over the world

Sustainable Energy for Small Island Developing States SIDSIn the framework of the EU project L3EAP (www.project-l3eap.eu), the Research and Transfer Centre FTZ-ALS of the University of Applied Sciences has started an online course for the second time. More than 730 participants from 118 countries have enrolled to find out more about sustainable energy production for small island developing states and to exchange information in a unique global learning community, hereof about a third from SIDS and two thirds from the rest of the world (http://e-learning.project-l3eap.eu).

A number of international lecturers are involved in this innovative self-study course, e.g. Dr Dinesh Surroop, University of Mauritius, Dr Anirudh Singh, University of the South Pacific, Fiji, Dr Kalim Shah, Indiana University, USA, and Prof Bernd Delakowitz, University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz. Produced in the framework of the EU project with support of the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU) it is facilitated by Franziska Wolf, University of Applied Sciences Hamburg, and Franziska Curran, University of Queensland, Australia.

Registration open: online course “Sustainable Energy for SIDS” Why are energy access, a secure energy supply and energy efficiency so crucial and at the same time so challenging for Small Island Developing States? The online learning course “Sustainable Energy for SIDS”, a key output of the L3EAP project, gives answers to these questions. The interactive online course is taught in English and runs from 9 January until 26 February 2017.

Promoting Digital Literacy - Utilizing ICT for climate communication and environmental education

CC0 Public DomainIn the context of the World Symposium on Climate Change Communication, to be held in Manchester, UK, from 22nd-24th February 2016 and whose details can be seen at: https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-als/events/communication.html, a special session titled "Promoting Digital Literacy - Utilizing ICT for Communication and Education on Climate Change" is now being organized.

Special attention will be paid to ICT solutions benefitting Small Island Developing States (SIDS), but contributions that tackle climate-related issues in the Global South and Global North are possible, too.
