Besides reflecting on project progress, the comprehensive working session discussed next steps towards the implementation of the transnational learning module as well as of the upcoming individual capacity-building activities at the partner institutions. All partners have scheduled some capacity-building workshops that are tailored to the demands of university staff and companies, for the second half of 2015. Moreover, the dates for the next conference in Germany (November 2015) and the final conference in Fiji (July 2016) have been set.

The project meeting was complemented by a field trip to attend the “Fête de l'énergie verte”, organized by the Indian Ocean Commission on 10 July 2105 at Port Louis. Dr Thomas Krimmel, Team Leader of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme at the IOC, informed the team about its programme and vast array of activities, e.g. electric vehicle promotion in Mauritius (see photo). Moreover, a set of renewable energy producers and energy efficiency consultancies showcased their activities, e.g. Mauritius largest bargasse processing plant presented a so-called “production ecosystem” where nearly every waste stream encountered in the frame of the production process is utilized or recycled, leading to highly sustainable production processes.
