Review: 4th European Fair on Education for Sustainable Development

Review of the 4th European Fair on Education for Sustainable DevelopmentThe 4th European Fair on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) took place from 9 to 11 September 2015 at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Campus Life Sciences. It was one of the first major activities supporting the “Global Action Programme” developed by the United Nations, which specifically calls for more initiatives in the field of Education for Sustainable Development at the local level. Over 200 attendees and 60 speakers and exhibitors from 18 different countries of the diverse field of ESD participated at this event.

Presentations were given by delegates of the UNESCO, members of public administration, research institutes, universities, NGOs, citizens’ initiatives, non-profit associations and foundations. By such a big variety of speakers from different professional backgrounds a broad insight into various approaches and new ideas on ESD could be gained. We were proud to place a presentation about the L³EAP project and include the development of the L³EAP open online learning module in the discussion on ESD at higher education institutions. The presentation was held by Julia Haselberger, a member of the L³EAP Hamburg Team.

The exhibition area could be visited between the sessions and allowed the participants to get to know each other in person, acquire new contacts for collaboration and learn about further stakeholders in ESD.

A special highlight was the European premiere of the theater play INHERITANCE – DAS ERBE at the official opening on wednesday evening, 9 September. 70 people were stunned by the expressive performance and music the young artists from South Africa staged that evening.

The Fair was organized by the Research and Transfer Center “Applications of Life Sciences” of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences with support of the German Polish Energy Efficiency Project GPEE and under the auspices of the RCE Hamburg and Region.

Pictures and presentations of the Fair are published on the GPEE website under
